Cossies Beach on the Cocos Keeling Islands has been named Australia's best beach.
Brad Farmer revealed his 101 Beach Beaches 2017 list last week at iconic Bondi Beach, with Senator Fiona Nash there to launch the publication.
Cossies beach is part of a relatively unknown group of 27 tiny islands - the Cocos (Keeling) Islands - which are about a four-and-a-half-hour flight from Perth.
While Cossies is notable for its inaccessibility, not all the beaches on the list are so remote. Burleigh Heads and Shelley Beach on the Nambucca coast make the top ten, are well known haunts for Aussie beachgoers. Sydney's Camp Cove also makes the list.
The top ten beaches in Australia are:
- #1 Cossies Beach, Cocos Keeling Islands, WA
- #2 Nudey Beach, Fitzroy Island, Far North Coast, Qld
- #3 Moonee Beach, Coffs Coast, NSW
- #4 Turquoise Bay, Coral Coast, WA
- #5 Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast, Qld
- #6 Maslin Beach, Adelaide, SA
- #7 Dolly Beach, Christmas Island, Indian Ocean
- #8 Shelly Beach, Nambucca Coast, NSW
- #9 Boat Harbour Beach, North West Coast, Tas
- #10 Apollo Bay, Great Ocean Road, VICTORIA
