Southbank in Melbourne is set to be home to a brand-new, mixed-use tower, developed by Newcity Development Group and designed by architect Elenberg Fraser with Cre8tive Property managing the hotel operator selection process.
One of Melbourne’s fastest growing suburbs is set to be home to a brand-new, 69-storey mixed-use tower which will combine residential apartments, co-working spaces and a world-class, purpose-built lifestyle hotel.
At a glance:
Located on Clarke Street in Southbank, the 199-room hotel will have a vibrant ground floor restaurant and bar, sprawling conference and event spaces, two swimming pools, a gym and yoga studio, as well as a rooftop observatory and sky garden, providing uninterrupted views of Melbourne CBD, Port Phillip Bay, the Botanic Gardens and beyond.
There will also be a Club Lounge located on level 66 of the tower, which will be available as a meeting and entertainment space for hotel guests, residents, tenants and visitors.
Developed by Newcity Development Group and designed by award-winning architect Elenberg Fraser, Cre8tive Property is managing the hotel operator selection process and is calling upon hotel operators big and small with a lifestyle focus, to submit expressions of interest.

Andrew Taylor, Managing Director of Cre8tive Property said “This project in the heart of Southbank is one of the most inspiring developments the city has seen and Newcity Development is creating a space that is going to become a mecca for locals and guests to the city. Standing 69-storeys tall, the tower is not only going to transform the Southbank skyline, but it is going to bring the vibrancy that lifestyle hotels embody to the area and that in itself is incredibly exciting."
“The City of Melbourne has committed significant funds to transform the Southbank area to secure its reputation as a premier arts and cultural destination while the Victorian Government is funding the creation of new public spaces and investing in the expansion of MCEC. The transformation the precinct is undergoing is huge and this development is in a premier position to capitalize on the investment.”
Sam Failla, Director of Development for Newcity Development Group, said: “Earlier this year, Newcity met with the team at Elenberg Fraser to discuss revising what was previously a large fully residential tower into a value-packed residential offering which combines a hotel and office component.
“What we have now is a world-class, truly mixed-use building which is centred around a vibrant work, live and play concept. Our vision for the development was for it be an urban oasis, fostered by healthy living and innovation and we are excited to be well on our way to delivering on this project.”
At a time when Southbank and the Melbourne Arts Precinct is undergoing a renaissance, Newcity Development Group’s vision promises to deliver the Southbank neighbourhood a world-class hotel and a true lifestyle experience.
The hotel is slated to open January 2024.
Cre8tive Property and Newcity Development are seeking proposals from Hotel Operators for either a Hotel Management Agreement or Lease Agreement. Expressions of Interest campaign closes on 11 October 2019.
