Boutique hotel collection, Lancemore, in partnership with Carr Design, has announced the addition of a new Melbourne hotel with the opening of Lancemore Crossley St, set to open early 2020.
Australian boutique hotel collection, Lancemore, has announced the addition of a new Melbourne hotel to their stable with the opening of Lancemore Crossley St, due to open early 2020.
Working with award-winning design firm Carr, the property will be the seventh property in their portfolio. This follows the Lancemore Lindenderry Red Hill - a sophisticated country-house hotel by Hecker Guthrie and their understated cool Potts Point property, Larmont Sydney by Lancemore by Hassell Studio.
At a glance:
Previously named Romeo Lane, Crossley Street is the pinnacle of Melbourne culture, centrally located between the Paris end of Bourke Street, Theatre District, restaurants such as Gingerboy, Becco and Pellegrinis, and the tempting sights and sounds of Chinatown.

Lancemore CEO, Julian Clark said he was excited to add Lancemore Crossley St. to the company’s growing collection.
“This is our most ambitious project to date in, what is in my opinion, the best location in our home city Melbourne. The design will breathe new life into the building, referencing its past and present, to capture the essence of the city."
“Every detail has been considered through the lens of the new Lancemore brand, launching in October, to offer a true Melbournian experience for the discerning guest,” he continued.
The hotel is undergoing a $10M transformation, with its interiors artfully reimagined by Carr, one of Australia’s most influential architecture and interior design firms whose design portfolio also includes award-winning hotels Jackalope Mornington Peninsula and United Places Botanic Gardens.
Situated in an iconic laneway location, the hotel will feature five room types for guests to choose from, it’s walls hung with bespoke commissions from emerging artists, and a Melbourne rooftop terrace capturing sparkling city skyline views.
Hosting a melting pot of arts, culture, food, and fashion, the hotel still exudes a quietness through consideration and authenticity. Guests can choose whether to retreat to the exquisite calm that the 113 private rooms offer or experience the captivating program of the public spaces.
Carr Director, Dan Cox said: “Lancemore Crossley St. will be richly layered fusing art, theatre, architecture and urbanism to provide the sensory experience of being ‘onstage’ or ‘offstage’.”
“The guest is drawn in to become the ultimate insider, retreating offstage from the performance of the city to an uncluttered, yet assuredly considered and tactile space. Within this sanctum, guests are free to truly be themselves. The masks come off, and the rest and rejuvenation can begin. Guests can expect a raw and honest palette with luxury finishes that elevate the comforts of home to a new level,” he continued.
Creative agency Projects of Imagination, have been engaged to oversee the Lancemore Group rebrand, and all the brand touchpoints for Crossley St - aiming to connect with customers on every level, from the music you hear, the books in your room, the scent in the air and beautiful in-room collateral with bespoke illustration by Alice Lindstrom.
Lancemore has become a highly respected boutique hotel operator in Australia, recognised globally as the most awarded hotel group in Australia in Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards.
