Townsville's Seaview Hotel redevelopment is due for completion in April 2021 by Irvin Hotel Group and Darren Dickfos Architects.
The Seaview Hotel located at The Strand in Townsville is currently undergoing an $8 million redevelopment.
Stage 1 is due for completion by the end of May with the new Gaming Room commencing immediately afterwards.
The hotel was originally built in 1929 and during WW2 was the Officers quarters. The Irvin group purchased the hotel in 2013.
Joe Irvin, CEO Irvin Hotel Group told WILLIAMS MEDIA the refurbishment would be completed in four stages, starting in February 2020 and with a plan to finish by April 2021.
Stage 1 - Bottle shop under construction (underway)
Stage 2 - New gaming room built from scratch
Stage 3 - Current gaming room will be turned into sports bar
Stage 4 - Beer garden
Darren Dickfos Director of Darren Dickfos Architects (DDA), is a national award winning pub and hotel architect.
Dickfos told WILLIAMS MEDIA, “It is the premier hotel in townsville given its position and an iconic pub, everyone knows of the Seaview”
“The Seaview has an existing extremely popular beer garden and an additional roof area will be added with design themes to reflect the tropical environment” said Darren.
Irvin said the “Seaview Hotel has being going from strength to strength since we purchased in 2013 and after the refurbishment we are hoping it will be the number one destination on The Strand.”
“It is the first time I have done a major redevelopment of about $8-9 million and am relying heavily on our Architect Darren Dickfos who is doing a terrific job”, Irvin told WILLIAMS MEDIA.
Joe Irvin said "all going well so far regarding timing, however we may expect a few cyclones along the way.”
“My greatest fear is that the Government COVID-19 policy will stop construction” said Irvin.
Looking to the curent market Dickfos told WILLIAMS MEDIA “we are getting a few extra jobs being requested for refurbishments of gaming rooms during this period”
“Our interstate jobs will be a little difficult and postponed until we can travel again, and will still be there when things settle down and open up again” said Dickfos.
Darren Dickfos said “It is a good opportunity for pubs to do a refurb at the moment, even if its paint and carpet or gaming bases, providing something new and fresh to maintain market share when gaming is open again.”
