Atura Dandenong’s own Brownstone Micro Brewery has been recognised in the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA).
Atura Dandenong’s own Brownstone Micro Brewery has been recognised in the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA), with three of its boutique brews celebrated in the award program that is widely recognised as setting the benchmark for brewers across Australia and around the world.
The 2021 awards saw Brownstone Micro Brewery take home its largest number of wins yet, achieving a gold medal for Best New World-Style Pale Ale for its Doveton IPA, a silver medal for Best Sweet Stout for its Doveton Stout and a bronze medal for Best European-Style Lager for its Doveton Lager.
The Australian International Beer Awards is the largest beer competition in the world and is conducted by The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV). The award program assesses both draught and packaged beer, with 75 judges tasting 2,500 entries from more than 400 breweries entered from across 21 countries.
Brownstone Brewery, a hidden gem in Dandenong, is focused on producing beers that reflect the tastes of the local community with the award-winning brews carefully crafted under the expertise of master brewer Steve ‘Hendo’ Henderson and Matt John.
Ryan Crocker, General Manager, Atura Dandenong said, “We are thrilled to be recognised in the AIBA awards again this year, this time with three of the five boutique brews we entered being awarded, which is incredible recognition for micro-brewery going up against some of the biggest players in the game.
“Our gold medal winning IPA has a perfectly refined flavour that celebrates the taste profile of an American IPA, matched with a mixture of both Australian and US sourced hops, delivering a complex brew with fruity flavour notes, while our vanilla milk Stout offers beer lovers a full and smooth, creamy stout.
“We only started making our bronze medal winning Doveton Lager last year during lockdown because we knew this style or beer was a favourite with our customers, so we wanted to create the best lager we could to reflect the tastes of the local community – and it is exciting to see the brew already so highly regarded against its competitor set.
“I am incredibly proud of the entire team at Brownstone Micro Brewery, creating world-class beers for the community thanks to their passion and commitment to great beer and brewing excellence.”
About the winning ales:
Doveton IPA (Gold Medal Winner for Best New World-Style Pale Ale 2021 and Bronze Medal for Medal for Best American Strong Style Ale 2018 and 2019)
Bright orange in colour and 5.8% ABV this American IPA packs plenty of punch. The all Australian malts place emphasis on being pale so the hops come forward, the hops being a mix of US and Australian. This gives a complex tropical fruit flavour and aroma, subtle crystal sweetness and the centennial characterised by onion-like notes.
Doveton Stout (Silver Medal Winner for Best Sweet Stout 2019 and 2021)
A vanilla milk stout that delivers chocolatey goodness and a smooth creamy finish. This sweet stout is brewed with the addition of unfermentable milk sugar (lactose) that gives the beer a subtle sweetness, accentuated with hints of vanilla bean.
Doveton Lager (Bronze Medal Winner for Best European-Style Lager 2021)
Brownstone’s newest brew and dedicated to the locals, this lager is the crispest, smoothest and easiest drinking pale-ale the team could produce. Many hours were spent during COVID-19 lockdown crafting and refining this brew for the community to enjoy.
