Located 3km offshore in Abbot Bay, North Queensland, Camp Island is at the Northern end of the Whitsunday Islands group in the world heritage listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Privately owned Camp Island Resort is being offered for sale and is likely to attract boutique resort operators as well as private owners to use as an exclusive retreat.
“Camp Island Resort has been owned by a syndicate of farming families since 1995 who have used it as a private holiday retreat,” said Samuel Biggins of Colliers International, who is marketing the offering via an auction campaign with his colleague Tony Huan Wang.
“They are committed to selling as it is now surplus to their requirements, and feel it is time to pass the opportunity to the new owners.”
The 2.408ha leasehold property consists of the principle lodge with living, dining and kitchen facilities with accommodation provided in four private double suites; jetty for yacht/tender mooring, separate three bedroom staff/caretaker’s accommodation and a machinery shed.
Resort facilities include a full-sized tennis court, swimming pool and barbeque area. Reliable phone coverage and internet facilities are available on the island.
Awarded the 1988 Architectural Society’s House of the Year, buildings have been built using brushed box hardwood with colorbond roofs, featuring silky oak door frames and polished timber floors.
They have been designed and built to withstand tropical weather systems, surviving cyclone Yasi and the recent cyclone Debbie unscathed.
Mr Wang said the resort offers access to prolific marine life and the opportunity to experience everything from nearby estuaries and flats, inshore and offshore coral reefs and sport fishing.
“This location and resort facilities would also be very appealing to a fishing camp operator who could turn it into a high end fishing retreat.
“The island also offers rock fishing at the eastern end of the island and the clear waters provide excellent opportunities for fly fishing.”
Camp Island Resort is readily accessible by helicopter in under 30 minutes from Hamilton Island, Townsville, Ayr, Bowen and Proserpine.
A jetty is located on the island to provide for yacht or tender mooring. The closest boat ramp on the mainland is from the Elliott River boat ramp which is only 3km away.
The property is being offered via Colliers International public auction in Brisbane commencing 11am on Wednesday 5 July 2017, unless sold prior.
