TKD Architects have renovated the old Queensland Government Savings Bank, preserving its history and impressive architecture, into the new Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane.
The new Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane is set to open in February 2018 in a restored Art Deco heritage building at 171 George Street, with 220 apartments, plus a restaurant and bar. The impressive architecture has been the base of the inspiration and influence for the overall design.
The building was originally the Queensland Government Savings Bank, and Toga Group in conjunction with TKD Architects, will preserve the Art Deco style of the sandstone clad building. The impressive building’s ground floor was the stately banking chamber with ionic columns, a double-height ornate ceiling with ceiling roses, plus detailed cornices, original timber panelled walls and marble finishes.
This will be converted to the hotel’s entry foyer and restaurant. The top floor of the iconic building was used by Queensland’s first official radio station, 4QG from 1925 until 1942, and the building has also housed various government departments over the years.
TFE Hotels CEO Rachel Argaman said Brisbane has AUD$6 billion worth of tourism projects in the pipeline, with international and domestic visitors estimated to grow over the next decade to 9.3 million, bringing an economic contribution of AUD$7.9 billion.
“The hotel is well-placed to offer guests an enticing blend of history, grandeur, great dining and convenient living close to some of the city’s biggest attractions, as Brisbane continues to rapidly expand and develop,” she said.
“Adina Apartment Hotel Brisbane will be an attraction in its own right as the city’s most exciting new hotel with a history. The moment people walk into the foyer, they will fall for its charm and from there, they will have so many moments to explore its history, right into the heart of the city.”
Guests will be offered spacious apartments with a kitchen, laundry and living room, or studios with kitchenettes, and they can take advantage of the full hotel services which include 24-hour reception, a fitness centre and a pool.
