Justin Hemmes is set to put his stamp on the Royal Hotel Bondi as the Merivale chain continues to expand.
With a long list of A-grade hospitality properties around Sydney, Justin Hemmes has purchased the Royal Hotel Bondi for more than $30 million. His up-market Merivale chain has already made its mark on the Coogee Pavilion in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, plus purchased The Collaroy in Sydney’s Northern Beaches for around $21 million in August, and the Newport Hotel, for nearly $50 million in 2015.
The portfolio also includes the Tennyson Hotel in Mascot, bought for $37.05 million last December, and The Alexandria Hotel.
The Royal Hotel Bondi has ocean views from the upper floors, and has been run by the Moulding family for 40 years. The Merivale revamp will most likely reposition the pub to be one of the area’s best up-market venues.
