The iconic hotel to be developed adding new apartments and additional hotel rooms in New Zealand.
New Plymouth, on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island offers key council assets including The Len Lye Centre, Govett Brewster Art Gallery and the TSB Showplace in addition to world class dining, shopping, accommodation and entertainment experiences. Its West End Precinct has been reimagined over the last seven years to become the city’s cultural, arts and hospitality hub.
Taking advantage of its location, the King and Queen Hotel and Suites is also set to be reinvented. In addition to the 30 new high end hotel rooms being built, taking the total to 60, new apartment accommodation ranging in sizes with outstanding views of the mountain, Len Lye Gallery and the Tasman Sea will be created. Construction may start as early as next year.
“As a group we are determined to help make this happen,” said Daniel Fleming, Precinct Chair and General Manager of King and Queen Hotel and Suites. “We intend to create a high standard of ‘liveability’. In addition to purchasers being able to tailor their units to their specific needs, they can utilise the facilities on offer at the hotel, which include room service, meal chargebacks, housekeeping and concierge services. Residents are also invited to have massages, body and beauty care at The Spa by King and Queen.
“It will be built to the highest standard and will give guests even more choice,” Fleming said. “A lot of thought has gone into providing our guests with a 5-star experience and we look forward to being able to offer that experience to significantly more people visiting this beautiful and increasingly vibrant region,” he said.
The principals behind the development believe the CBD is in urgent need of re-planning and substantial redevelopment, and this new project may start the ball rolling for further enhancements to the city. Its retail, dining, green spaces, recreational amenity, parking and inner city living could also set a standard that other communities may wish to emulate.
