Colliers International Director Transaction Services Hotels Asia Pacific, Karen Wales and National Director Transaction Services Hotels Asia Pacific, Neil Scanlan are handling the search on behalf of resort owner, White Horse Australia.
“Rarely does an opportunity present for an international hotel company to become involved in a premier resort development in Australia,” Ms Wales said.
“Colliers International has established itself as the market leader in hotel operator selections, having undertaking more negotations than any other group during the past three years.
White Horse Australia acquired Lindeman Island in 2012 and immediately commenced plans to develop a leading international island resort which sets new standards for integrated resort design. The developer expects to receive Federal Government approval of their Environment Impact Statement in early June.
The development and expansion of the existing resort is to include a 6-star Spa Resort, a 5-star Beach Resort, a 5-star Eco Resort, and a Tourist Villa Precinct and village centre. Construction will commence mid-2019 and is to be completed by 2022.
The project will also provide restaurants, bars, an eco-tourism centre, conference centre, airport, and supporting amenities.
Mr Scanlan said White Horse Australia was keen to appoint a single operator for the three resorts, allowing sufficient time for the operator to be engaged in the final phase of design and fit-out.
“As the owner and developer, White Horse Australia is looking to create a truly spectacular world-class island resort which celebrates its premier location within the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage area,” Ms Wales said.
“The project will deliver 100 luxury villas and 136 guest suites, thereby allowing scale and efficiency across a range of room products and price points.
“The Colliers International team has a long history of successfully negotiating hotel management agreements and that experience will be invaluable in selecting the best operating partners and negotiating the most favourable terms possible for this development.”
The Whitsunday region attracts more than one million visitors each year and is increasingly sought by international visitors to Australia. It is anticipated that the redeveloped Lindeman Island resort will generate a net increase of 203,670 visitor nights per year to the region.
