Quest Apartment Hotels has announced its latest 42-room development is coming to Tauranga CBD, with the demolishment of an 80-year-old building making way for the new hotel.
The hotel provider’s new project is a three-storey 42-room apartment hotel and retail complex on Tauranga’s Devenport Street, which will include retail shops, ground-floor car parking and two floors of short-term hotel units.
Mayor Greg Brownless said the project is important because Tauranga’s centre city hotels are currently operating at full capacity.
“This will give another opportunity for people to stay in the CBD,” Brownless said.
Priority One's communications and projects manager, Annie Hill, said the new hotel would be a drawcard for people who wanted to base themselves in the CBD.
"Developments of this type will also bring vibrancy to the city centre 24/7 and will support the city's retail and hospitality offer," she said.
Quest Tauranga Central is scheduled to open in May 2019, pushed back over a year from its original plan to open in October 2017, with delays to funding as the cause behind the hotel’s postponement.
