After initially being rejected, the Iconic Scarborough hotel and apartment project in Perth has been approved by the The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority, allowing Chinese developer 3 Oceans Property to go ahead with their 324 apartment, 148-room hotel proposal.
The Iconic Scarborough project, which has now been approved by The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA), will see 324 apartments and a 148-room hotel developed in Perth's popular beach suburb.
"In response to the MRA’s original comments around overdevelopment of the site, it has always been clear that height was not considered the central issue but more so the scale and configuration of the podium and the base of the towers," said in a previous statement.
"These elements are substantially reduced in size and impact and the public uses through the base of the building have been reorganised. Also, the appearance of more slender towers providing better view corridors sitting atop-of rather than blending-in with this significantly scaled back podium is proposed."
The revised proposal reduces site coverage to 72 per cent, down from 80 per cent together with overall car parking reduced from 834 to 750 bays.
The slimmer tower forms results in the total number of apartments being trimmed down from 345 to 324. Hotel accommodation has also been reduced from 159 rooms to 148 rooms.
"The Scarborough community has consistently shown us they are ready for this type of coastal development and we encourage people to participate in the public comment process."
"The development will stimulate the growth of local tourism, retail and hospitality sectors and assist Scarborough in achieving its true potential as one of Western Australia’s national and international iconic destinations."
