Leading independent hotel operator Iconic Hotels’ newest 63-room property, Abode Kingston, reached 100% occupancy just eleven days after officially opening.
Abode Kingston is the sixth hotel within Iconic Hotels’ flagship Abode Hotels portfolio, designed, developed and constructed by Geocon.
Iconic Hotels general manager Rien Donkin told The Hotel Conversation that the high occupancy experienced at Abode Kingston is testament to the fact that Canberra’s accommodation market demand continues to grow.
“As a local independent organisation, it is important that we actively contribute to industry growth and development by responding to business and leisure tourism needs."
“Reaching the 100% occupancy milestone two nights in a row, just eleven days after officially opening the hotel shows that Abode Kingston has hit the mark in terms of product, position and market placement,” Mr Donkin said.
Revenue and distribution manager Rudy Kalele said that Abode Kingston experienced high interest as soon as it hit the market, gaining solid pre-opening business.
“Abode Kingston entered the accommodation market strongly and presented a new product offering in a key Canberra location.”
“The hotel achieved an average RevPAR of $216 across both nights, which is a strong rate for the current market,” Mr Kalele said.
Current STR data reveals that in the last five years the occupancy and average daily rate in Canberra has increased substantially. New supply over this period hasn’t had any negative impact on the growing Canberra market. If at all, the new stock is of high standard and has assisted in attracting more travel tourism and trade.
Abode Kingston opened on 31 August 2018 and offers 63 studio apartment-style rooms across four storeys.
