After several inaccurate reports last month, Australia’s largest private owner of hotels Jerry Schwartz has completed his acquisition of Sydney’s newest hotel – the Four Points by Sheraton, his 13th hotel investment.
The intricate $156 million transaction was brokered through JLL Hotels and Hospitality Group Managing Director Mark Durran, being the largest hotel transaction to occur in Sydney in recent years.
Talking exclusively with WILLIAMS MEDIA, Mark Durran said, “The Sydney Hotel market remains the most favoured by major investors. Sydney CBD has always had high barriers to entry for investors. Participation by investors in new developments as turnkey takeouts on completion was an alternative way for hotel investors to gain a foothold in this tightly held market.”
“The scarcity of hotel investment opportunities in central Sydney will continue to underpin future capital growth for those already invested in this market", Mr Durran concluded.

To celebrate Mr Schwartz acquisition, the hotel was given to charity recently for the night as part of a fund raising campaign. Grand opening proceedings included the attendance of NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Adam Marshall.
Representatives from nearly 20 different charities were in attendance at the function, all beneficiaries of the fundraising activities using hotel room nights at the newly opened hotel. Donated room nights were used for a variety of fundraising purposes – some were raffled off or auctioned, others were used to reward loyal individuals working with a charity.
Dr Schwartz said that this was the second hotel opening that he had used to support charities, following the launch last year of Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour.

“There’s no doubt I have been very fortunate being able to build my Sydney hotel network and see them perform so strongly, so my idea was to ‘give back’ to sections of the community who are doing it tough,” he said.
“The charities participating were from all walks of life – medical research, mental health, the environment, homelessness and many others. It was great to be able to share their stories and contribute to their future operations.”
Separately Dr Schwartz has donated the profits from the first night takings to Australia’s struggling farmers via Aussie Helpers.
