The unique Collectionist Hotel in Sydney has turned one and announced its most popular rooms with guests.
Sydney’s first ‘choose your own adventure’ hotel, The Collectionist, is celebrating its first birthday and has revealed its most popular rooms with guests.
Opening in Camperdown in June 2018, The Collectionist revolutionised the booking process for guests by allowing them to select their choice of room on check-in from 39 individually designed spaces.
“We purposely set about creating rooms that challenged the ‘norms’ on hotel room design,” says Daniel Symonds, CEO & Co-Founder of Collectic Hotels, who headed up the development.
“Some rooms are polarising while others have a broad appeal, and guests base their choice on a number of factors including the design, the layout, the décor and also what mood they are in on the day.”
In addition to unique design and décor, The Collectionist uses room names rather than numbers to further describe what awaits behind the door.
Reflecting on over 10,200 room nights booked, the hotel has revealed its top 10 most popular rooms.
Here’s a list of the top 10 favourites:
1. Gravidam has topped the list of favourites as the most popular room of choice with guests. With its feminine pink décor complete with faux fur throws and draped curtains, the room reflects the meaning of ‘gravidam’ which is pregnant in Latin.

2. Chunky, clunky and texturally bold; Klay feels less contemporary inner-city and more primitive mud cave. Each of the rooms designed by Pattern Studio is an ode to someone colourful or memorable that the designers crossed paths with during their world travels.

3. With its striking black and white walls contrasted by soft greys and neutral tones, M.I.A (Missing in Action) is a room for those with bold design tastes. Equipped with a balcony overlooking the city landscape, guests can watch the sunset over drinks… monotone.

4. La Chambre Noir is about as moody as it gets – dark and moody. As the name suggests, this room is an ode to all things black and guests say it provides the best night’s sleep you can get!

5. The loudest room in the hotel – no, it’s not the traffic noise, it’s the paint job! With walls adorned with graffiti-like street art in a palette of bright colours, as the name suggests, Jetset Rocket is ready for take-off.

6. Bringing out the inner artist, The Drawing Room, is reminiscent of an artist’s studio in mid-inspiration. The illusion of paint dripping from the walls in a collage of muses, exudes creativity and decadence.

7. Pepe Saint Maché pays homage to the prominent papier-mâché artists of Mexico. Although a ficticious character, “Pepe” presence is very real with an effigy permanently presiding over the room. Say hola!

8. Inspired by the colours and textures of public spaces, the highlight in this room, is the evocative image of an empty train station in Berlin, hence the name Helga Station. Its décor is a mix of faux hand painted tile details, raw timbers paired with high vis blues.

9. Its broody, suggestive imagery above the bed alludes to a sexier night stay, but Just Remo’s erotic themes are quickly tamed with unexpected Nanna florals.

10. Did you ever wonder what went on in Mike Brady’s den after hours? Yep, so did the designers Willis Sheargold. The Den is no longer just a man cave with brown, orange and olive green colour palette is reminiscent of the interior design of the early 70s, celebrated by TV’s most famous blended family.
