Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced the expansion of the Cairns Convention Centre will be even bigger and better than expected.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced the expansion of the Cairns Convention Centre, with drawings released showing a new tropical-themed entrance and Sky Terrace offering world-beating views of Trinity Inlet.
The $176 million project will also include more space enabling the centre to cater for multiple functions.
The Premier said the added bonus is the 570 jobs the project will create.
“We only get one chance to do this so we’re going to do it right,” the Premier said.
Member for Cairns Michael Healy said the announcement showed the government’s commitment to the Far North.
“The Convention Centre is an engine room for the Cairns economy and as far as I am concerned the bigger the engine the better,” he said.
“It will also compliment the Global Tourism Hub to further generate more for our region,” he said.
