The TAB (Disposal) Bill 2019 brings WA PubTAB operators one step closer to being able to compete on an even footing with online betting agencies, with the legislation allowing the sale of the TAB inclusive of simulated horse racing.
Australian Hotels Association (WA) CEO Bradley Woods said the McGowan Government is to be commended for delivering on an undertaking that has been made by consecutive Governments.
“Taking WA’s betting agency out of Government hands is an issue that has been considered and debated for almost a decade, so the passage of the legislation to make it possible is a tangible step towards making it a reality,” Mr Woods said.
“The sale of the TAB presents a unique opportunity to assist PubTAB operators who have struggled to adapt to the challenges of competing against large online corporate bookmakers.”
“The AHA commends those members of the State Opposition who maintained a consistent, supportive approach to this legislation.”
