Adelaide's Hackney Hotel has closed its doors to allow for developer V Three's Botaniq project.
The Hackney Hotel in Adelaide closed its doors on Saturday ahead of a $40 million redevelopment set to begin in January.
The historic pub will make way for a six-storey complex with 27 apartments, along with a 72-bed, four-storey hotel and six, two-storey “luxury sky townhouses”.
The site's heritage-listed hotel will be retained and used as a front bar, while the second storey will be converted into a cafe.
Developer V Three is behind the project, which is expected to be completed within three years.

V Three Director Wayne Henry told WILLIAMS MEDIA maintaining the heritage status of the area had been priority.
"Before it was developed into a pub in 1880, the site had been a flour mill, which is why we're reinstating a laneway through the middle of the project called 'Flour Mill Lane'," he said.
"Our aim is not only to preserve the heritage of the site, but also to reinstate some of it as well."
“The luxury sky townhouses are unique to Adelaide, and will provide views to the Adelaide Oval.”
The mixed-use site will include just over 1000 square metres of commercial space, with the Hackney Hotel to reopened as a food and beverage offering.
