In a period of significantly decreased hotel occupancies and closures across Australia, Best Western Plus The Ranges, in Karratha, WA, has defied expectations to record strong occupancy throughout the COVID-19 crisis.
A hotel in the country's north-west tourist region is bucking the Covid-19 trend with an occupancy rate sitting well above market averages.
The 4.5 star Best Western Plus The Ranges, in Karratha, WA is averaging levels of 70-75 per cent, providing a beacon of hope for the state's accommodation industry.
Recently appointed General Manager, Jools Barrows, said there had been a steady stream of clientel stemming from essential work and travel obligations in the area.
“We’re delighted by the results that we’ve been achieving over the last six weeks, despite the government travel restrictions being in place," she said.
"The majority of our guests are essential workers, work stay or fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) personnel from local businesses who have required a true ‘home away from home’ while they continue to perform their much needed roles.

“We also have the occasional guest from Port Hedland who has been required to travel to Karratha for essential reasons and who chooses to select to stay with us.”
The Ranges’ success can be attributed to its thoughtfully adorned self-contained King apartments that feature full kitchens and washing machines, perfect for long stay guests, as well as its tropical gardens that provide a vibrant oasis.
The hotel’s on-site café is offering full meal package solutions for guests, with takeaway breakfasts and dinners as well as pick-up lunch packs available.
For Mrs Barrows, who began managing the hotel with her husband in Chris in February, it had been an eventful start to their tenure.

“We came onboard right after cyclone Damien and then this happened," she said.
“While we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of getting to know and run the business, and have been quick to adapt with expanded hygiene protocols over and above our excellent cleaning processes, we’re finding it difficult that we have limited opportunity to really get to know our guests given contact restrictions.
“We’re really looking forward to the near future when we can welcome guests to enjoy our newly built gym, complete with an elliptical cross trainer, treadmills and weights, and re-opening our 20m resort-style pool for their use, and encouraging them to use our beautiful barbeque area.”
