The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service has announced the opening of an overnight accommodation hut at Waterfall Valley in state's Central Highlands region.
Bushwalkers trekking the Overland Track within the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park can now rest overnight in a new energy-efficient hut at Waterfall Valley.
Funded through the Tasmanian Government’s $16 million Improved Statewide Visitor Infrastructure Program, the Waterfall Valley Hut has been constructed to accommodate 34 walkers enjoying the stunning natural landscape.
The hut was designed and built by Tasmanian companies Green Design Architects and AJR Construct in a move designed to support local jobs.

Features include improved bushfire protection, thermal efficient design, solar power, low emission lighting, areas for social gathering, and opportunities to appreciate the world heritage landscape, both during the day and at night.
Design materials have been carefully selected to blend with the landscape and complement the colours and textures of this extraordinary alpine region.

To meet COVID-19 physical distancing requirements, accommodation in the hut will be limited to 16 walkers for now.
All walkers must carry a 3-4m season quality tent and be prepared to camp.
The Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service recently introduced a free registration system for Overland Track until 30 September, as a COVID-19 safety measure to manage the number of people departing each day.
