Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) welcomes today’s announcement by the NSW Government that COVID-19 restrictions will be eased from Monday, helping hotels across the state inch closer to normal trading conditions.
TAA NSW CEO Michael Johnson said the announcement is welcome news for accommodation hotels throughout NSW, with increased capacity limits enabling venues to host larger functions such as weddings.
“This has been a long-awaited development for NSW and is an important step in the right direction for the state’s hotels and conference centres,” Mr Johnson said.
“The removal of caps on weddings means hotels can confirm larger bookings, which correlates directly into more hours and jobs for workers.”
“Allowing dancing to resume means weddings and social functions can be properly celebrated and a sense of normality can return to the state’s hospitality industry.”
“We remain acutely aware that while today’s announcement is a welcome one, there is a long road ahead for the state’s accommodation industry and a number of hotels in NSW, particularly Sydney are still grappling with critically low occupancy rates.”
“Many hotels require international borders to open before they can see a sustained recovery from the pandemic, meaning these businesses have a difficult period ahead and will require further financial support from both state and federal Governments.”
