Australian Venue Co (AVC) is throwing its support behind charity partner SecondBite over the AFL Grand Final weekend by raising funds for the Australian food rescue organisation.

AVC will donate $1 from every Parma sold on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September across all AVC pubs nationwide to SecondBite; Australia’s largest free food rescue not-for-profit organisation that is helping to end food waste and food insecurity.

Paul Waterson, Australian Venue Co CEO, said that supporting SecondBite is an important part of Australian Venue Co’s ongoing commitment to reducing food waste and diverting good produce from landfill.

“We’re so proud to support the incredible work that SecondBite does in rescuing and distributing food to vulnerable Australians through their network of community food programs. Every dollar donated by AVC to SecondBite provides the equivalent of five meals for those in need, showing that a small contribution can make a significant impact in the community.”

SecondBite works with corporate partners like AVC as well as major retailers and food donors, diverting unsold produce from landfill to feed Australians who are doing it tough. In the 2022 financial year, SecondBite rescued more than 24 million kilograms of food, providing the equivalent of 48 million meals for their agency partners.

SecondBite CEO Steve Clifford said the funds raised by the AVC Parma meal donation would make a huge difference. 

“Grand Final weekend is such a great celebration and I’m sure that patrons of all AVC’s venues will get behind this when they know how much of a difference every dollar makes to our ability to rescue and distribute more good quality food for Aussies in need.” 

The AFL Grand Final weekend initiative will add to AVC’s ongoing partnership with SecondBite, which sees diners offered the option to add a $1 SecondBite donation to their order via Mr Yum at participating venues across Australia, with AVC dollar matching each contribution.
