Atura Hotel Dandenong's Brownstone Microbrewery has once again made a significant impact on the global beer stage, securing an impressive array of awards at the 2024 Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) last Thursday.
Recognised as the largest annual beer competition worldwide, the AIBA brought together top brewers from around the globe. Under the expert guidance of Master Brewer Steve ‘Hendo’ Henderson and the skilled craftsmanship of Head Brewer Liam Lysaght, Brownstone Microbrewery proudly took home four medals this year: two Silvers and two Bronzes.
Exceptional Beers, Outstanding Results
The Melbourne Royal Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA), celebrating its 30th anniversary last year, attracted a record 2,826 entries from over 400 breweries across 21 countries. This prestigious competition judges both draught and packaged beer, as well as beer packaging design. Brownstone Microbrewery’s dedication to brewing excellence was evident as they secured medals across multiple categories, showcasing their versatility and commitment to quality.
About the Medal-Winning Brews
Doveton Stout - Silver Medal for Sweet Stout (Best Porter or Stout):
Brownstone’s Doveton Stout wowed the judges with its robust flavors and velvety smooth texture. This Vanilla Milk Stout delivers a rich chocolatey taste with a smooth, creamy finish, thanks to the addition of unfermentable milk sugar (lactose) and hints of vanilla bean. The silver medal affirms its status as a top contender in the competitive Porter or Stout category.
Doveton Hazy Pale - Silver Medal for Juicy or Hazy Pale (Best Modern Pale Ale):
The Doveton Hazy Pale stood out with its juicy, hazy characteristics, earning a silver medal for Best Modern Pale Ale. This brand-new brew highlights the brewery's innovative spirit within contemporary beer styles. Bursting with tropical fruit flavors and aromas, it features Australian and North American hops, along with oats and wheat for a smooth, silky mouthfeel and super-low bitterness, making it akin to drinking tropical fruit juice in beer form.
Doveton Industrial Pale Ale - Bronze Medal for International Style (Best International-Style Pale Ale):
The Doveton Industrial Pale Ale earned a bronze medal in the Best International-Style Pale Ale category. This American IPA, vibrant orange in color, showcases the hops with complex tropical fruit aromas and a crystal sweetness. This award highlights the brewery’s versatility and skill in brewing international styles.
Doveton Pale Ale - Bronze Medal for Australian Style Pale Ale (Best Australian-Style Pale Ale):
The Doveton Pale Ale, renowned for its balanced flavors and authentic representation of the modern pale ale style, secured a bronze medal. Brewed with Australian Malt and American hops, it offers tropical fruit, citrus, and subtle pine aromas enhanced by a gentle malt sweetness, reaffirming its position as a top contender in its category.
