HTL Property have sold the Shell Cove Waterfront Tavern development site to Balmoral Hospitality Group on behalf of clients Shellharbour City Council and Frasers Property Australia.
Shell Cove’s Waterfront Tavern is a step closer to welcoming its first customers after exclusive agency HTL Property announced the sale of the site to the locally based Balmoral Hospitality Group.
“On behalf of our clients Shellharbour City Council and Frasers Property Australia, we’re delighted the tender process extracted such a high level of offers, culminating in the Balmoral Hospitality Group’s successful bid” commented HTL Property’s National Director of Pubs, Dan Dragicevich.

At approximately 1,400sqm, the Waterfront Tavern has been designed to include a family bistro area, sports bar with TAB, gaming room, informal indoor and outdoor seating, private dining areas, freestanding bar, open plan kitchen and fireplace seating. Once operational, The Waterfront Tavern will cantilever over the new public boardwalk and marina, and enjoy views of the harbour to the North and East.
At its heart, it will provide a family-friendly atmosphere with a focus on community and the best of Australian hospitality.
“We’re excited about the opportunity this world class precinct provides, and with decades of local hospitality experience, our group is ecstatic about winning the tender to deliver what we believe will be the jewel in the crown for the region” said Balmoral Hospitality Group representative Andrew Denmeade.
Once operational, the new Waterfront Tavern will rank among the most panoramic on Australia’s east coast combining spectacular scenery with busy local patronage – like The Pavilion at Coogee, The Clovelly Hotel and Icebergs at Bondi.
“Balmoral Hospitality Group bring considerable experience to the table, with its directors having developed and successfully opened the nearby Central Hotel, Shellharbour, Headlands Hotel, Hotel Austinmeer and famed Gregory Hills Hotel in the past 5 years”.
“Shell Cove is a family-focused community and the tavern will be a place for the whole family to enjoy. It’s another piece of the truly mixed-use precinct at The Waterfront, Shell Cove that will serve locals for generations to come” concluded Denmeade.
Nestled on the ocean front, Shell Cove is a $2.3 billion community set to become a major regional attraction, serving locals while drawing visitors from far and wide. Forecast population growth in the wider Shellharbour City is forecast to increase almost 23 percent by 2036, underwriting the potential for a quality hotel offering.
Shellharbour City Council Mayor Marianne Saliba says the tavern is one of the most anticipated aspects of The Waterfront Town Centre.
“The tavern is one of the features of the precinct that the community has been most looking forward to, and will be a wonderful family gathering place in this vibrant and exciting new area.”
“It’s exciting to see the different components of this major waterfront destination come to life enhancing not only the tourism focus of Shell Cove, but of the entire Illawarra South Coast region", Cr Saliba says.
"True deep-waterfront hospitality offerings are as unique as they are irreplaceable, and when considering the magnetism of the Newport Arms and Watson's Bay hotels of this world, one can be forgiven for being more than a little excited about the prospects of a similar offering in this burgeoning part of NSW" commented HTL Property’s Managing Director Andrew Jolliffe.
The new Waterfront Tavern at The Waterfront, Shell Cove is expected to be completed in 2021.
Shell Cove, a joint venture between Frasers Property Australia and Shellharbour City Council, is a new community in a natural coastal setting surrounded by beaches, parks and wetlands, and close to schools, transport and major centres.
A focal point will be the boat harbour and marina next to The Waterfront, Shell Cove’s lively town centre, featuring a retail precinct, specialty shops, restaurants on the marina’s edge, hotel, children’s beach, water play areas, library, community centre and the tavern.
