Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced last week that Robert Irwin would spearhead the next phase of the state's latest domestic tourism campaign.
The Queensland Government has enlisted the help of a wildlife warrior to welcome more domestic tourists to the state, appointing Robert Irwin to spearhead a new campaign.
Launched last week, the initiative also includes a range of tourism operators filming segments for a new video, which will be used across social platforms with the message that Queensland is "open for business"
Ms Palaszcuk said it was important to showase the resilience of the Queensland spirit following the impact of fires, floods and coronavirus.
“When times get tough, Queenslanders stand together," she said.
“We need to do all we can to help our critical tourism industry through these tough times.
“We need to tell Australians that Queensland remains open for business and we need to encourage them to spend their tourist dollars in our state.
“Robert Irwin is recognisable the world over and a great ambassador for our state and I’m so glad he’s helping get the message out that Queensland is open for business.”
The second child of the late environmentalist and television personality Steve Irwin, Robert Irwin, 16, has established a media career in his own right, hosting his own show on the Australia Zoo TV Network, while also making regular guest appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in the US.,
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said working with someone of Robert's status was "invaluable".
“Tourism operators around the state need all the help they can get right now," she said.
"This campaign will make sure that Queensland is front-of-mind for millions of Australians looking to book a holiday.
“One in 10 Queenslanders are employed in the tourism sector.
"We must work together to safeguard this industry.”
