Chloe Mason is a Negotiator within the Queensland CBRE Hotels investment and brokerage team which specialises in the sale of all asset classes within the hospitality industry. Chloe’s core focus is pubs and tavern style assets.
Chloe joined CBRE in 2015 and commenced as Negotiator in the Perth Hotels team at the beginning of 2017 before relocating to Brisbane at the end of 2019. CBRE is an industry leading Hotels business develop- ing solutions that make hospitality assets a meaningful contributor to business productivity and performance, working with a wide range of clients including hotel and pub owners operators, investors and developers.
Since joining CBRE in 2015, Chloe has gained significant experience on a number of sales campaigns from mid-tier regional, corporate and leisure hotel assets throughout Western Australia.
Prior to joining CBRE Chloe’s background was in business development and marketing for an ASX listed civil and mining company where she had strong client relationships with BHP Billiton Iron, FMG, Rio Tinto Iron Ore and Chevron.
How did you get into the industry?
I decided to stop running my own personal training business in 2015 which I had been doing so for a year. My decision was to get back into the corporate world so I took a temporary position as the assistant for the Hotels division in our Perth office. At the end of that year the Director for Hotels in Perth offered me the opportunity to step into a junior broker role within the team so I went for it. I had never considered working in the property industry let alone as an agent but five years on I am extremely happy I accepted that temp position which I was reluctant to in the beginning.
What are some of your career highlights?
Being awarded the REIWA Achievement Award after my first year in agency was exciting as it was very unexpected as I was up against 6 other nominations. As well as this, my first ever sale was one of Perth’s oldest nightclubs – the Library Nightclub which sold for $4.6 million. The venue had a lot of history, the sale campaign attracted a lot of attention and it was a very interesting first sale to work on.
A recent highlight has been accepting a position within our Brisbane team and given the opportunity to work within another market with a team who are very knowledgeable in the industry and people I highly respect.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently selling the leasehold interests in both the Pig N Whistle Brunswick Street and Pig N Whistle Indooroopilly. Both venues have vastly different qualities, Brunswick Street will ultimately benefit from a hands on operator who can connect with the local catchment. Indooroopilly has the benefit of the 12 million plus shopping centre foot traffic and ability to drive revenue through the addition of gaming a room.
What changes would you like to see in the next five years?
In the next five years I would love to see more female agents in the commercial sector and particularly selling pubs. At present, I believe there are only two female pubs agents in Australia (including myself) and I’m proud to say that both work within the CBRE Hotels division.
If you weren’t selling pubs what would you be doing?
If I didn’t fall into the property industry I would’ve more than likely gone back into the resources sector in business development and marketing.
What is your favourite pub to drink at?
This is a tough one as I’ve only just moved to Brisbane from Western Australia 5 weeks ago. If I was to choose one favourite in Perth it would be the Cottesloe Beach Hotel. If I had to choose one in Queensland it needs to be the one I have frequented the most since arriving 5 weeks ago and that would be the Port Office in the CBD.
What is your favourite city to visit and why?
My favourite city I have visited is Paris. Sitting in Paris at one of the sidewalk café’s or bars drinking wine, eating cheese and people watching is my favourite thing to do anywhere but ideally in Paris.
