Andrew’s vast hospitality experience will assist The Marlborough in further enhancing the exceptional experience for both day guests and overnight guests. Being one of New Zealand’s only Boutique Hotel and Vineyard provides The Marlborough with a unique position to showcase the best of New Zealand’s food, drink, accommodation, and authentic hospitality.
Add in the wide array of on-site activities and experiences in the surrounding region and the stunning Marlborough Sounds, will see The Marlborough well positioned to become the ultimate destination choice when exploring the top of the South Island.
Andrew has just returned home to New Zealand after, most recently, repositing and renovating The Vineyard at Florence, a boutique vineyard resort in Texas. He moved the 600-acre property from loss to profit while dealing with the consequences of the global pandemic.
Andrew moved to Texas from Sydney, in Sydney he captained 1888 Hotel, a heritage-listed 90 room upscale property, through a successful refurbishment and rebranding to become the contemporary Ovolo Darling Harbour. The Hotel was included on the Condé Nast “Hot List 2014,” Gourmet Traveller’s “Best Things On Earth 2014” #1 Sydney Hotel on TripAdvisor, Best Australasian City Boutique Hotel by World Boutique Hotels 2015, Mr. & Mrs. Smith 2014 best in class Boutique Hotel. Prior to 1888 Hotel, as Director of Hotel Operations for Molonglo Group in Canberra, Andrew completed the pre-opening of Hotel Hotel (now Ovolo Nishi) and created and opened the luxury short stay apartment brand (now Nishi Apartments by Ovolo). Shortly after opening, Gourmet Traveller named Hotel Hotel the Best Boutique Hotel in Australia.
Andrew arrived into Canberra from country Queensland where he was General Manager for the award-winning Spicers Peak Lodge and Spicers Canopy, both members of Luxury Lodges of Australia. Spicers Peak Lodge is a 12-room luxury lodge with a one-hat restaurant and day spa and Spicers Canopy provides a luxury glamping experience and both sit on a 9,000-acre property in southeast Queensland.
As Operations Manager - Guest Services for the 40-suite, 4,000-acre luxury Emirates Wolgan Valley Resort & Spa, Andrew was part of its pre-opening team, helping earn the luxury lodge the #1 position in Australia on TripAdvisor and kudos from Condé Nast Travellers and more than a dozen global hospitality awards.
Other career stops include General Manager of Hotel Lindrum Melbourne and General Manager of Adelphi Hotel Melbourne. Other operational positions were in Australia, New Zealand and Tahiti.
Andrew earned a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Auckland. He has travelled extensively and has lived in the UK, USA, Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.
