Sofitel Sydney Wentworth officially reopened its doors last night, following a transformative renovation, marking a new era of French luxury and local heritage for one of the city's most iconic hotels. The grand reopening was a dazzling affair that brought together Sydney’s elite, including TV personalities, politicians, and a who’s who of the tourism industry.

The hotel showcased its culinary prowess with caviar bumps, elaborate seafood stations, and intricate ice sculptures that celebrated Sofitel's 60th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary. The evening also featured a glamorous Pommery Champagne Velvet Lounge and a taste of dishes from the hotel’s four new dining venues created in partnership with House Made Hospitality.

First opened in 1966 by Qantas, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has long been a landmark of luxury in Sydney, having hosted an endless list of international celebrities and dignitaries over the decades. Among its notable guests are Princess Diana and Prince Charles (now King Charles), Queen Elizabeth II, Sophia Loren, Elton John, and Bill Gates.

In a mark of Sofitel’s French zest, the crowd enjoyed a show-stopping performance by soprano Amy Manford of Hymne à l'amour, the song Celine Dion performed at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In keeping with the Qantas theme, popular DJs Flight Facilities had the crowd on their feet, and Qantas staff wore Pucci-designed crew outfits from the 1970s, evoking the glamour and sophistication of the golden era of travel.

General Manager, Sam Panetta was joined on stage by Ben Hopkins of Futuro Capital, Collin Zhou of KKR and Sydney Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, who all spoke of the hotel’s storied past, but also of its sparkling future. It was clear that this event marks the hotel’s return to the epicentre of Sydney’s social scene.
