Architect Jaimin Atkins of Plus Architecture New Zealand and developer Hengyi Pacific have created the $300 million, 295 apartment, 35 hotel room Pacifica project in Auckland which is due to start construction next month.
Auckland’s skyline is set to be transformed by The Pacifica, which will be New Zealand’s highest residential tower at 178m. The 57-level tower will be located at 10-12 Commerce Street in the CBD with construction scheduled to be completed by September 2020.
Featuring sky-high luxury living, architect Jaimin Atkins of Plus Architecture New Zealand worked with developer Hengyi Pacific (NZ) Ltd to create a glass façade designed to reflect the surrounding city and harbour, and offer exhilarating views as far as Great Barrier Island, the edge of the Waitemata and beyond. An iconic design feature of the exterior is the Maori Pikorua motif, represented by the ‘twist’ pattern on the building’s exterior.
The $300 million Pacifica project is due to start next month. "By March next year you'll be starting to see the structure rising," said Dean Fossey, a Hengyi Pacific director.
The bottom levels will feature a 35-suite boutique hotel for which the operator is yet to be selected, a high-end restaurant and cafe. A laneway known as "Pacific Lane" will run between Commerce St, Fort St, and Gore St.
Two car-parking lifts are planned for The Pacifica, with robotic-style car stackers, as these maximise car parking. Residents will drive into a dock, leave their vehicle on a turntable, and then the car is remotely moved into place.
At a glance:
About 20 to 30 per cent of Pacifica pre-sales had been made to foreigners, he said - mainly Chinese, after the project was marketed in Shanghai. By May, deposits had been taken on 82 units, priced from $657,000 to $5.875m, from level eight to level 52. Gavin Lloyd of CBRE said by August 18, deposits had been paid on more than half the units, worth a combined $200m.
"This includes $14.5m generated from the sale of three luxury penthouses in the past few weeks, which have sold in prices ranging from $4.48m to $5.275m," Lloyd said.
Hengyi Pacific has built two Melbourne super-towers and is well under way with a third.
The first Melbourne project was a conversion of The William, a 23-storey tower on William St and a 21-storey building in Little Bourke St with an outdoor pool and a hotel.
The second project is the Light House on Elizabeth St in the CBD. The 69-level, 607-apartment tower has distinctive colouring like a Rubik's Cube.
The third Melbourne project is Swanston Central, a 72-level, 1039-apartment project at 168 Victoria St in Carlton.
