In the latest example of Fabio Ongarato Design’s growing recognition in the Asia-Pacific region, the design studio is recognised in Singapore by the AHEAD awards, winning an accolade for its work on luxury Australian hotel Jackalope.
AHEAD recognises excellence in hospitality design and experience in regions including Asia, Europe, Americas and the Middle East.
Fabio Ongarato Design won the award for Visual Identity for its work on luxury Australian hotel Jackalope – a category comprised of specially selected projects that recognise the overall visual identity of a hotel, including elements such as graphic design, signage and physical collateral.
Fabio Ongarato Design’s work for Jackalope spanned brand identity and collateral, conceptual site narrative and experiential design, art curation and commissioning, environmental graphics and styling, lighting design, landscape installation design, and wayfinding strategy and signage.
Recognised by industry leaders as an exemplar of the shifting landscape of Australian luxury, Jackalope and its bar Flaggerdoot and restaurant Doot Doot Doot demands attention for its avant-garde integration of environment and brand experience.
Careful consideration has been given by Fabio Ongarato Design to each of the hotel spaces to maximise the sense of intimacy without discounting the site’s cinematic appeal. At each turn, visitors are encouraged to engage with a thematic world where the mythological narrative of the Jackalope is unveiled incrementally, yielding a sense of discovery.
“Our work for Jackalope started with formulating the conceptual site narrative based on the concept of Alchemy, which then set the brief for the architects, landscapers and art commissions to follow. We endeavoured to ensure the guest experience mirrored the unique oeuvre of the site, ” explains Fabio Ongarato, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Fabio Ongarato Design.
Responsible for spearheading the shift towards brand storytelling in design, Fabio Ongarato Design recognises that guests of luxury hotels and restaurants are learning to separate authentic experiences from novelty. In creating a cohesive language, the studio’s design elements are used to reflect the intended brand experience at every customer-facing touch point.
“Guests need to be engaged and transported if they are to maintain long-term engagement with a brand. It’s simply no longer enough to create beautiful spaces. Good design must touch both the heart and mind,” explains Ronnen Goren, Co-Founder and Strategy Director of Fabio Ongarato Design.
