The Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has reopened its doors, unveiling a $60 million transformation that enhances the luxury experience of this iconic Australian hotel.
The comprehensive refurbishment, spearheaded by Reward Group with designs from renowned architects Fender Katsalidis, brings a fresh, sophisticated feel to the landmark property, originally opened in 1966.
The transformation includes two new restaurants and two bars, offering diverse culinary experiences tailored to both travelers and locals. Key highlights of the renovation include the club lounge, an inviting new lobby entrance, and the beautifully redesigned Level 5 Delta Rue restaurant, along with the stylish Wentworth Bar.
Reward Group’s Associate Director, Jimmy Lee, expressed the team’s excitement to have taken on this refurbishment, noting their longstanding connection with the Sofitel Wentworth, a project they consider one of their most cherished.
General Manager Sam Penetta highlighted the transformation as a perfect balance between modern luxury and respect for the hotel’s rich heritage, ensuring the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth continues to stand out as a luxury hub in the city.
Located in Sydney’s financial district, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has long served as a key part of the city’s urban landscape, hosting distinguished guests including Princess Diana, Queen Elizabeth II, Elton John, and Bill Gates.
The recent transformation was backed by a strategic partnership between KKR, Futuro Capital, and Marprop Real Estate Investors, who acquired the property in 2021. This significant investment underscores the strong confidence in Australia’s hospitality sector as the nation’s tourism and business travel industry continues to thrive post-pandemic.
With a heritage spanning nearly six decades, the Sofitel Sydney Wentworth remains a symbol of elegance and distinction.
Mr Penetta said the reopening solidifies its status as a premier destination for both international visitors and local guests, as it reclaims its place at the forefront of Sydney’s luxury hotel offerings.
“The newly transformed Sofitel not only offers refined accommodation but also serves as a testament to the city’s continued prominence as a global travel and business hub.”
