Why did you choose a career in the hotel industry?
Growing up I fell in love with travelling the world, staying in many different destinations and hotels. Choosing this industry has allowed me to live and work in many different countries. Exploring foreign countries and meeting colleagues and guests from all cultural backgrounds has always been a highlight in this profession.

What was your first job appointment?
I was a management trainee in a beautiful luxury boutique hotel named “Wheatleigh” in Lenox, Massachusetts. A stunning small hotel with a hatted restaurant in the design of an Italian Palazzo complete with Tiffany windows nestled in The Berkshires of the New England states.
Do you have a particularly interesting/funny moment you can share?
Many years ago, I was overseeing the concierge and valet team of a hotel in Sydney. When we collected the guest’s car keys to bring the vehicle around it turned out not to be the guest’s car. The fact that the car key would give access to two different vehicles parked there on the same night was a coincidence one would have never thought possible.
What has been a career highlight?
Building a hotel from scratch and launching a new brand in the market at the same time is certainly my career highlight thus far. That’s Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets!

What do you see as the biggest issues the hotel industry is facing at the moment?
The high degree of uncertainty as far as travel is concerned and the lack of corporate travel are the biggest economic challenges our industry is facing. We are also juggling significant fluctuations in business volumes, which are very difficult to plan for and properly resource.
What excites you most about being appointed General Manager at Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, Australia’s First Indigo Hotel?
The way Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets promotes Adelaidean and South Australian lifestyle is second to none. Our architects, interior designers and the hotel team have undertaken a tremendous effort to tell our neighbourhood story and showcase our Festival City, the arts, local produce and countless references to Adelaide’s pioneering spirit and rich culture. It is a truly unique hotel we all can be very proud of and it is my privilege to open it 1st March.
