Sean Hunt, Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Marriott International, said, “I am delighted to welcome Peter Minatsis to lead the re-introduction of the distinctive premium Le Méridien brand to the Australian market.”
Marriott International today announced the appointment of Peter Minatsis as the General Manager of Le Méridien Melbourne, set to open early 2023. Le Méridien, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, will debut in Melbourne featuring the bold mid-century modern design synonymous with the global brand - adding the 11th property to Marriott’s growing Melbourne portfolio.
Peter makes the move to Le Méridien Melbourne following a five-year tenure at Sheraton Melbourne where he has taken the hotel to new heights and navigated a challenging landscape for the industry over recent years.
Sean Hunt, Area Vice President, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Marriott International, said, “I am delighted to welcome Peter Minatsis to lead the re-introduction of the distinctive premium Le Méridien brand to the Australian market. Peter is a highly experienced hotelier with a proven track record for delivering outstanding results. His career at Marriott spans more than 17 years and he has worked in a range of markets including Vancouver, Sydney, Fiji and most recently at Sheraton Melbourne. He will lead the team at Le Méridien as we continue to cement our growing presence in the Melbourne market.”
Peter commenced his hospitality career over 20 years ago at The Fairmont Hotel in his hometown of Vancouver. In 2005 Peter relocated to Sydney and commenced at the iconic Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park. He then successfully opened the Sheraton Resort & Spa, Tokoriki Island, Fiji, followed by a tenure at the Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa before returning to Australia to take the reins at Sheraton Melbourne in 2017.
Peter Minatsis, General Manager, Le Méridien Melbourne said, “Le Méridien is known for timeless, chic design and has a Parisian ‘je ne sais quoi’ about it that appeals to travellers looking to explore the world in style. Moreover, it is such a natural fit in Melbourne – a city known for inciting creativity across a vibrant arts, design and fashion culture,” said Peter Minatsis.
“I look forward to building a team that will foster my vision to create a destination for Guests and Associates that enables imagination and discovery whilst respecting the history of the hotel’s location.”
In his new role, Peter will lead the team at Le Méridien Melbourne as the hotel prepares for opening in early 2023. The 235-room 12-storey hotel at the heart of the city’s cultural centre will feature a restaurant, café, roof terrace and 210sqm of function space. Catering to cosmopolitan and forward-looking travellers it will connect guests to nearby art galleries, boutiques, and bistros.
Upon opening, Le Méridien Melbourne will join Marriott International's growing portfolio in Australia, taking the number of hotels in operation to 29, and their 11th hotel in Melbourne. Marriott International has opened four hotels in Melbourne since the beginning of 2020, including W Melbourne, Melbourne Marriott Hotel Docklands, Courtyard by Marriott Flagstaff Gardens and AC by Marriott Melbourne Southbank.
