Far North Queensland’s hotel sector continues to boom with the world-renowned Fitzroy Island Resort for sale, opening the door for a possible JV with the owner to redevelop and expand the existing resort.
Located 30km off the coast of Cairns, Fitzroy Island is one of the closest island accommodation offerings in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Situated on one of the world’s most unspoilt tropical islands, the Fitzroy Island Resort incorporates all of the available commercial operations on the 339-hectare National Park Island, including the existing Resort, and significant beachfront land available for further development.
Brokering agent Grant Bailey of Ray White Hotels exclusively told The Hotel Conversation, "This is an extremely unique opportunity as the current vendor is looking for a capital investor to fulfil the next stage of development on Fitzroy Island.”
"The resort has a fully approved DA in place for additional stages, with the first stage being 21 additional hotel rooms which is able to be realised in the immediate future."
"The Vendor is welcoming of a Joint Venture agreement to work with an incoming investor, as they believe in the future potential of the resort and are excited to see this vision come to life, with the understanding of a take-out option for the resort in the coming years.”
Ray White Hotels Director of Investment Sales & Advisory Mark Bullock also comments, “this process provides an astute investor with the opportunity to capitalise on the significant year on year growth in the tourism sector in Far North Queensland. Opportunities to acquire an island resort, 190-seat fast cat ferry and a number of ancillary businesses with a strong trading history are rare in the market.”
The resort is offered for sale in a flexible manner, with vacant possession or management agreement in place.
A number of leading international hotel management companies have already expressed an interest in managing the property, which in turn provides investors with a blank canvass to further enhance the Resort.
“Not only is the Fitzroy Island Resort a stable going concern business, there is also an opportunity for an incoming investor to capitalise on the significant DA in place to expand the room inventory on the Island,” adds Mr Bailey.
Expressions of Interest will close Thursday 2 August 2018 at 4pm.
