Edgewater is a significant property built in 1883 with an adjoining motel constructed in 1964 and 2002. The hotel has a building area of about 1202 square metres. Accommodation includes, public bars, dining room, lounge bar, reception, gaming lounge, conference room, kitchens, gymnasium. The motel has 42 guest rooms.
Mr John Blacklow said that over the last few years, the business side related to the property was purposely scaled down whereby evening meals discontinued in June 2019, and breakfasts ceased in March 2020. The hotel was then used for quarantine purposes during the following period.
Mr Nicholas Bond said that a total of 1.32 million people visited Tasmania on scheduled air and seaservices during the year ended December 2019. This does not include cruiseship visitors.
Total spending by visitors to Tasmania increased to $2.53 billion, up by 5%, at an average spend of $1,911 per visitor. Total nights were 10.82 million.
The number of interstate visitors to Tasmania increased to 1.13 million, up by 4%, and the number of international visitors decreased to 293,000 – down 4%.
A number of intersecting streets provide access to local residential properties. The immediate surrounds are dominated by the presence of the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal and a number of shipping/ freight logistics warehouses, depots and hardstands.
