The beloved Royal Hotel Ingham sold ending an era for Alan and Sharyn Quagliotto and the Quagliotto family, owning since 1959, negotaited by Savills Kath Brassington and Joseph Ganim.
Savills Australia and New Zealand announce the sale of the beloved Royal Hotel Ingham, facilitated through an off-market Expressions of Interest process. The sale marks the end of an era for Alan and Sharyn Quagliotto and the Quagliotto family, who have proudly owned and operated the hotel since 1959.
The hotel was originally purchased by Alan’s father, and for more than six decades, it has remained under their stewardship, serving as a central gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
Alan, who took over management from his father, has been at the helm for decades, ensuring the Royal Hotel continued its tradition of warm hospitality, great food, and a welcoming community atmosphere. Understandably, the decision to sell has been an emotional one, with Alan feeling the deep sentimental significance of parting with a venue so closely tied to his family’s history .
Situated approximately 110km north of Townsville and 1,465km northwest of Brisbane, the Royal Hotel boasts a prime location in the heart of Ingham’s town centre. Its strategic positioning offers convenient access to some of Australia’s most breathtaking natural attractions. Just a short drive away lies the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, the breathtaking Hinchinbrook Island, and Wallaman Falls, Australia’s highest single-drop waterfall.
Kath Brassington, Associate Director, Hotels at Savills Australia and New Zealand said, “The hotel has long benefited from a steady flow of locals, tourists, and adventure seekers, making it an attractive investment in the thriving North Queensland tourism and hospitality sector.”
While the Royal Hotel will transition to new owners, who are eager to uphold its legacy while introducing fresh ideas, the Quagliottos’ contribution to Ingham’s hospitality scene will not be forgotten. The hotel has long been a staple for the community, offering a public bar, bistro, beer garden, function room, gaming room (15 EGMs), accommodation (16 rooms), and a manger’s residence, making it a favourite for social gatherings, live entertainment, stays, and events.
The sale was a strategic purchase by the buyer with the potential for further upside through renovation works and the incorporation of additional amenities, further enhancing its position within the local hospitality landscape.
Joseph Ganim, Senior Executive, Hotels at Savills Australia and New Zealand said, “As the Quagliotto family farewells their 65-year legacy at the Royal Hotel, they express deep gratitude to the patrons, staff, and community who made it special. The hotel's future remains bright, blending tradition with innovation while preserving its authentic Queensland pub experience.”
The sale marks an exciting new chapter for this iconic pub, and Savills Australia extends its congratulations to both the Quagliotto family and the purchaser on a successful transaction. We look forward to witnessing the Royal Hotel’s continued success under its new ownership.
