One of Newtown’s iconic venues, ‘The Hub Theatre for sale through CBRE’s Harry George and Ray White’s Mark Fragias. There have been over the years lots of interested parties to reignite The Hub, whether that’s to open its doors as a cinema once again, to host live music in a club or to become a home to a modern culture and hospitality scene.
One of Newtown’s iconic venues, ‘The Hub Theatre’, is available to new investor interest, providing creative investors or owner occupiers with a plethora of opportunities to make their mark on Sydney’s entertainment and hospitality scene.
The 7-13 Bedford Street venue sits within Newtown’s vibrant entertainment precinct, known for its mix of retailers, bars and restaurants such as high-profile operators Black Star Pastry, The Bank, The Courthouse Hotel, The Marlborough Hotel, Dendy Theaters and Thai Pothong.
The prominent corner position and wide frontage together with an approximate 664sqm site area and 1,000sqm gross lettable area are expected to generate interest in The Hub, which originally opened as The Bridge Theatre in 1913, headlining the biggest vaudeville circuits of that generation. Since 1934 it was used almost exclusively as a cinema.
CBRE’s Harry George and Ray White’s Mark Fragias are steering the Expressions of Interest campaign for the historic, 1,100-seater venue, which has been owned by the same family for three generations since 1965.
There have been over the years lots of interested parties to reignite The Hub, whether that’s to open its doors as a cinema once again, to host live music in a club or to become a home to a modern culture and hospitality scene. In the past, it’s also been the setting to TV commercials and comedy festivals.
Following a recent due diligence period with a former proposal, the venue continues to receive high profile interest both nationally and internationally.
CBRE’s Mr George says, “As we move into an endemic stage of Covid-19, with restrictions easing, Sydneysiders are looking for fun venues to meet up with friends. Larger venues such as The Hub have so much opportunity to meet this demand, and due to its large capacity and high ceilings it has vast potential for creative investors.”
Ray White’s Mark Fragias says, “This property is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the astute purchaser with no limitations if they possess a creative mind .”
Expressions of Interest campaign close 4:00pm (AEST) on Thursday, 18 November 2021.
