The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has strongly endorsed the McGowan Government’s announcement of a reduction in training fees, which will help build the skilled workforce WA’s hospitality industry requires.
Australian Hotels Association (WA) CEO Bradley Woods said: "The 'lower fees, local skills' policy will provide significant assistance to businesses who take on apprentices or trainees who are seeking a career in hospitality."
At a glance:
“This two year initiative will dramatically reduce the impact on businesses and is warmly welcomed by the hospitality industry,” Mr Woods said.
“WA’s hospitality industry is facing a major shortage of skilled workers, particularly in respect to chefs and cooks.”
“With Commercial Cookery, Hospitality and Tourism included in the 34 high priority qualifications that will have their fees at least halved, today’s announcement will make significant inroads in addressing this skills shortage.”
“This is an important investment in the local workforce and will help ensure WA’s hotels, bars, restaurants and pubs have access to the skilled workforce they require.”
