Power Jeffrey & Co appointed to sell Pity Pony Tavern in Collinsville Queensland Australia.
Power Jeffrey & Co’s Andy Nason has been appointed to sell the iconic Pity Pony Tavern and Motel in Collinsville.
Located at the corner of Stanley Street and Railway Road, the property is being offered for sale by private treaty and has an asking price of $3.5 million.
Mr Nason said, “it is not often that investors or owner operators get the opportunity to buy such a profitable portfolio – all in the one location within the Whitsunday region.”
He added that all three businesses are located in Collinsville, a close-knit community who always extend a warm friendly welcome to its many visitors seeking a country retreat.
Mr Nason added, “the Pit Pony Tavern, Motel & Apartments would make a great family business, it covers all the basic needs of food, drink, accommodation, leisure and entertainment.”
The hotel is a lowset country style property with the hotel comprising a public bar, lounge bistro, gaming room, kitchen, drive-through bottle shop plus motel accommodation with 16 self-contained units.
Pit Pony Tavern incorporates a lowset hotel venue with detached L shaped motel building in two wings located to the rear of the hotel. The main hotel building provides for a serviceable floor plan layout with a single central bar service core surrounded by various patron areas. The hotel facility is of mostly masonry block construction, whilst the motel building is of masonry block and timber construction.
The township of Collinsville is situated approximately 85 kilometres south east of the Queensland coastal town of Bowen, which is approximately half way between the major Central and North Queensland cities of Mackay and Townsville. Coal mining represents the main industry and source of employment in the region, with two open cut coal mines and power station all located in close proximity to the township. All coal is currently transported by rail to Abbot Point, just north of Bowen for shipping overseas.
Grazing is the other main local industry, whilst the area also has historically operated gold mines and now also benefits from a level of inland tourism, with weekend and day travellers heading through the town, which is less than 1 hour from the coast. Solar farms have also been a recent boom for the area.
The Collinsville area was first opened up as a grazing run in 1861, with subsequent reports of large coal deposits resulting in the commencement of coal mining in 1919. The town has a current population of approximately 1,500 and a shire population of approximately 4,000 exclusive of Bowen.
Major annual events in the district include the large Anzac Day march, a Memorial Service for miners killed in the district and May Day celebrations. Collinsville rodeo and bush and craft festival are other annual attractions in a town mainly comprising mining workers, contractors and their families.
Services to the township include a hospital and medical centre, a primary and secondary school, a golf course, local shopping and minor commercial facilities including offices of the Whitsunday Regional Council.
