Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia held a ceremony at Ayers Rock Resort on Friday 2 September to recognise 13 students graduating from the National Indigenous Training Academy (NITA) 2022 class.
NITA was established to provide young Indigenous Australians with solid career prospects in Retail, Horticulture, Hospitality and Tourism at Voyages properties - Ayers Rock Resort and Mossman Gorge Cultural Centre in Qld - as well as wider employment opportunities with other organisations. This year’s event brings the total number of graduates to 623 since the program’s inception in 2011.
The ceremony was attended by the graduates and special guest, Rhoda Roberts AO, a Widjabul/Wia:bal woman from the Bundjalung territories and recently appointed Arts Ambassador for Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia.
Voyages CEO, Matthew Cameron-Smith, could not attend the event in person but provided the following message of congratulations to the graduates, “I would like to express my congratulations and how proud we are of you all. It is through determination, dedication and your hard work that has got you to where you are today. As graduates, a new chapter begins for you and I would like to take this opportunity of wishing you all the very best in your future career – Whatever you decide to do, make sure it makes you happy and if I can give any advice, it would be say yes and have a go! Say yes, have a go and create your own destiny.”
Out of 13 students graduating four received Certificate III in Rural Operations and nine received Certificate III in Hospitality.
