A Canberra hotel has just been named the best global interior design of the year.
When thinking of the world's most stylish places, most people would picture something other than a hotel in Canberra, but Hotel Hotel has just been named as the World Interior of the Year for 2015 at the INSIDE - World Festival of Interiors in Singapore.
The contemporary hotel in NewActon, a new Canberra precinct, was designed by March Studio, a multidisciplinary design and architecture studio in North Melbourne.
Hotel Hotel beat more than 100 nominees across 9 categories. The judges described it as a "masterful integration of different spaces into a seamless and delightful interior." They said its use of recycled timber in the lobby was a "poetic use of leftover materials [to create a] powerful but not overwhelming" result.
Hotel Hotel also won a National Award for Interior Architecture at the 2014 National Architecture Awards.
Rodney Eggleston, Principal Architect and Co-Founder of March Studio, said it was incredible just to be nominated alongside the calibre of work at the festival. "These are global leaders who are producing exciting and innovative interiors, so to win the Hotel category and then the World Interior of the Year confirms for me that March is producing to the standards of creativity and execution we aspire to."
This double win caps off a big year for March Studio. "We’ll certainly celebrate this important recognition of our work, and it’s a great springboard into 2016 where we already have a number of brilliant projects in development, so watch this space," said Eggleston.
