A year since construction started, the new $200 million Howard Smith Wharf Project is one step closer to reality as builders prepare restaurants and bars for fit-out this week.
Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said this week sees some significant changes taking place on site as the handover of restaurants and bars begins for fit-out.
"This project will change the face of our city forever with a new five-star hotel a key feature of the project set to open in March 2019", she said.
The luxury 164-room hotel is being developed by the Deague Group, creator of the renowned Art Series Hotels.
“Already, this development has created around 200 new construction jobs for Queenslanders. Once it’s operational, Howard Smith Wharves will create another 800 jobs.”
More than 80 per cent of the site has been allocated as public space, ensuring a playground for children and families to enjoy.
Howard Smith Wharves CEO Luke Fraser said more than $200 million will be invested to revitalise the river-city precinct.
“Already you can start to see the site really taking shape but people will be surprised by what they see in the next few weeks as builders begin the fit-out of restaurants and bars on-site.”
Just around the corner on Eagle Street, Dexus has proposed a total revamp of Eagle Street Pier which would bolster the precinct which you can read about here:
