InterContinental Hotels Group has announced the region’s most awaited luxury destination, Hayman Island by InterContinental, is scheduled to open in July 2019, with Mark Eletr appointed as Resort Manager.
Mark Eletr, a renowned hotelier is one of several senior appointments to be announced, with Wensdae Lucas as HR Manager and Lindsay Williams as Rooms Division Manager.
Mark has been at the helm of international luxury icons for over 20 years, most recently as Vice President & Regional Director of Operations at Karma Group in Asia.
As a native Queenslander, Mark’s tenure in luxury resorts began with over 7 years at Green Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef, before escalating to his fist General Manager role in 2007 with the boutique island icon, Voyages, Lizard Island.

Mark’s career spans considerably from Australia to South East Asia and the United Arab Emirates, with high-profile international postings in Group General Manager roles within Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas and Akaryn Hotel Group.
Commenting on his appointment, Mark said: “It is a privilege to introduce a brand-new luxury concept for local and international visitors alike. Myself, like many, share a special affinity with Hayman Island; its spectacular beauty and seclusion are rare encounters in today’s world.

Mark’s position is effective immediately and he will continue to develop his team alongside Wensdae Lucas and Lindsay Williams. In the coming months, an exciting line-up of food and beverage experiences will be announced, alongside local tourism activities and the introduction of new luxury suites, the beach house and residences.
The 166-room hotel is the only property on the 400-hectare island and rests in the spectacular, unspoiled and hypnotic surrounds of the Whitsunday Islands. Purposeful consideration has been given to the conceptualisation and design of all rooms, suites and penthouses, world-class food and beverage experiences and reintroduction of eminent facilities from a new spa to kids club and stunning retreat spaces.
Renowned for impeccably high standards of hospitality, InterContinental will offer guests a seamless expression of the InterContinental Life, enriched with meaningful experiences and local know-how.
Located on the northernmost point in the Whitsunday Islands, Hayman Island by InterContinental is accessible via Hamilton Island and then by either luxury vessel, helicopter or seaplane.
