The Queensland Government has said it will pursue hosting the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, if all levels of government get behind the state’s efforts and provide appropriate financial support.
The Olympics could be coming to Queensland in 2032 after the state government outlined a potential bid to secure the games.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk today said on Monday a detailed value proposition assessment had shown that a Queensland based Games in 2032 could deliver significant economic and community benefits for the state.
“This is about so much more than a few weeks of sport,” the Premier said.
“Hosting the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics could be a game changer and deliver 20 years of accelerated opportunity for our state.
“That’s why cabinet has made the decision to continue working towards securing a Games – and we will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure we receive the financial support we require from all levels of Government."

The government has indicated it will pursue a staged approach towards a Games bid, with the next stage being to secure financial agreement between all levels of government.
Stage two will focus on finalising the candidature file.
The Premier said the value assessment had shown the Games could:
The Premier said the IOC’s “New Norm” rules meant it was the ideal time for the State to pursue the opportunity, with the IOC prepared to put in a significant investment towards Games delivery and provide flexibility.
“We are well placed with more than 80 per cent of venues existing or proposed to be temporary," she said.
"This would leave a legacy supporting Queenslanders for decades into the future.”
'Unprecedented opportunity'
The proposed bid has been welcomed by the state's tourism industry, with Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington telling WILLIAMS MEDIA the state-wide approach would benefit the sector.
“We saw through the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games how successful large-scale international sporting events can be in driving visitors to a destination and we’ll see that again at an even higher level should Queensland be successful in securing the 2032 Olympics," she said.
“Hosting the 2032 Olympics would provide the Queensland tourism industry with an unprecedented opportunity to showcase our state to the world, both in the lead-up to the event and for years afterwards.
"The state-wide approach to the 2032 bid would also mean the economic benefit and tourism boost will be felt by operators and businesses right across the state.”
