Australian developer Greaton has received planning consent for its Wirra Wirra Wellness Resort project from the City of Onkaparinga in South Australia.
Construction on a new a health-oriented spa resort on the southern fringes of Adelaide will begin this year after the project recieved approval from council.
Developed through Greaton, in partnership with Wirra Wirra winery, the 22-key resort will be spread across 10 buildings at the vineyards at 255 Strout Road, McLaren Vale, 38 kilometres south of Adelaide.
Nicho Teng, Managing Director, Greaton, says he was pleased the City of Onkaparinga supported the development of a high-end luxury resort to supplement the existing accommodation currently available in the region.
“As a proud South Australian, I am pleased to work with Wirra Wirra to attract more well-heeled tourists to the area," he said.
"Whilst the appeal of this outstanding wine region so close to Adelaide is well known, the lack of luxury accommodation has presented somewhat of a barrier to attracting more affluent international travellers."
Designed by international architects, Blink Design Group, the concept for the Wirra Wirra Wellness Resort will include nine double-storey buildings.

A heritage property on the site that once belonged to the winery’s founder, Robert Wigley, will be repurposed into a bridal suite.
Aside from a wellness centre, guest facilities will also include a swimming pool and function hall.
Andrew Kay, Managing Director, Wirra Wirra, said that while the tourism expenditure generated in the Fleurieu Peninsula far outweighed the other wine regions closest to Adelaide – Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills – they both attracted more international overnight visitors.
“We hear regularly from in-bound tourism operators that the lack of premium accommodation in our region is a barrier to international visitation," he said.
"We presented our hotel concept to potential suppliers at the 2019 Australian Tourism Exchange in Adelaide and the response was overwhelmingly positive.
“It gives us confidence that the 5-star development at Wirra Wirra will add real value to the Fleurieu Peninsula by offering an accommodation destination that will help drive international visitation, expenditure and awareness of the region."
The resort is scheduled for completion in 2022.
