InterContinental Sydney has launched an extraordinary new bar experience in the Southern Hemisphere’s oldest working lift - tucked away in The Treasury Bar & Lounge.

Flooded with natural light and steeped in history, The Treasury Bar is at the heart of the hotel’s original cortile, where Australia’s first vine plantation was laid.

The Treasury Bar is a lobby destination and a vault of Sydney’s best-kept secrets.

Built in 1851 as Sydney’s first purpose-built government office, the building’s historic lift has been preserved since the hotel’s transformation in 1985.

Now, it's reimagined into a moving bar that promises an unforgettable cocktail hour that celebrates the building’s rich heritage.

The journey begins in the iconic Treasury atrium, where guests step into the historic lift.

As it ascends and descends, mixologists craft micro cocktails on the spot, each nodding to the hotel's storied past.

Guests can savour these drinks while enjoying the intimate ambiance and historical charm.

The experience continues at The Treasury Bar, where a second cocktail from a curated menu is served tableside, paired with two exquisite small plates.

The menu pays tribute to the transformation of the hotel, reflecting both its historic significance and innovation, taking inspiration from the building’s storied past.

The curated menu features cocktails and small bites including beetle leaves with caramelised pork, crisp vegetable herbs, and beef skewers with tonnato sauce, fried baby capers, and herbs.

Cocktails

• The Georgian Gimlet: Celebrating the Treasury building’s Georgian architectural style with Four Pillars Yuzu Gin, citrus, sugar, and sencha tea.
• The Vault Martini: Inspired by the old vault beneath The Treasury where bonds were once stored, this martini reimagines a classic serve with Beluga Noble Vodka, dry curacao, hibiscus, and citrus.
• The Atrium Negroni: Spotlighting the antique domed atrium, featuring Four Pillars Dry Gin, Campari, vermouth, and lemon myrtle.
• 1851 Old Fashioned: A nod to the heritage 1851 Treasury Building, with Dalmore Double Oak, sugar, bitters, and macadamia.

The Southern Hemisphere’s Oldest Lift Bar will open for guests, each Friday and Saturday from February 21, 2025 to 29 March between 4pm - 6pm, set at $69 per person.
