Accor has announced it has raised $404,000 through its Accor Bushfire Disaster Relief Appeal, which was set up to help bushfire-affected people and communities across Australia.
The coronavirus pandemic may have held the world's attention for the majority of 2020 but its rise to prominence was preceded by a natural disaster that brought a vast number of Australian communities to their knees.
The bushfires at the start of the year impacted all facets of life for the residents of towns in their path, many of whom are still rebuilding from the damage that was done.
It was with this in mind that hotel operator Accor set up the Bushfire Disaster Relief Appeal, a global initiative designed to raise funds for those affected through the Gofundraise donation platform, as well guest initiatives across the company's Australian apartments, hotels, resorts and corporate offices.
A total of $404,000 was raised between January and March, which was last week donated to the following charities:
In addition to monetary support, Accor also provided emergency accommodation and catering for members of the community, firefighters and their families.
Accor Pacific COO Simon McGrath said it was hoped the donations would enable each charity to source and distribute support and supplies, when and where they were most needed.
“The impact of the bushfires was catastrophic in many states across Australia earlier this year," he said.
"Since then, Covid-19 has become a national priority, however it’s important we continue to care for those many people and communities impacted by the bushfires across Australia.
“We could not have raised these crucial funds without the incredible people we have in our business and the generosity of our guests.”
Accor also extended special hotel rates to all firefighters and service providers across Australia to say thank you for their courage and bravery.
