Boston Atlas Hickory is a joint venture between construction firm Hickory and property investment groups Boston Global and Atlas Investment Corporation who have lodged a development application for a $130m gateway hotel tower near Sydney Airport.
This joint venture has been formed to lodge the DA under “Boston Atlas Hickory Hotels”. The application proposes a 12-storey hotel located at 210 O’Riordan Street, Mascot.
The proposed development is situated at the “gateway” to and from Australia’s Sydney Airport, on the prominent corner of O’Riordan and Robey Streets and Baxter Road. The site is one of the last freehold land available in the area, and notably one of the closest to the airport, with just 850m walking distance.
Designed by renowned architects Rothelowman, the proposal is to develop a 224-room hotel with a dedicated rooftop sky lounge, offering a unique guest arrival experience. Plans include a rooftop bar and dining facilities, with views over Sydney airport runways and the CBD.
The proposed hotel would include gym and wellness facilities, conference rooms and meeting spaces, and approximately 132 above-ground parking spaces. A retail showroom, branding and advertising spaces are also outlined in the plans.
If approved, Hickory expects to start construction on the hotel in August 2022. Completion is slated for March 2024, by which time domestic and international travel is predicted to return to pre-pandemic levels.
Michael Argyrou, Director of Hickory said, “We are pleased to be working with Boston Global and Atlas to propose this premium hotel development, which will offer first-class access to Sydney Airport.
The project will deliver outstanding amenity to the area, and welcome both domestic and international travellers upon completion in 2024.”
Alexander Rodakis, Founder and Director at Atlas said, "In our first partnership together, we are thrilled to have reached this landmark milestone alongside our strategic partners Hickory and Boston Global.
As we emerge from these challenging times, this project represented an opportunity to secure a well-located site with excellent potential and investment in our local economy.
This project is a significant development for the region, with a high-quality offering in an important gateway location, which will be viewed by international and domestic travellers both in and out of Sydney airport.
We look forward to delivering an iconic building, servicing Australia’s busiest airport.”
Corey Cooney, Managing Director at Boston Global said, “Boston Global is excited to deliver a multipurpose luxury hotel immediately adjacent to Sydney Airport. This is much-needed infrastructure in the growing Airport Precinct.”
