Sheraton Port Moresby Stanley Hotel & Suites marks Marriott’s second property in Papua New Guinea and a promising expansion of the company’s footprint in the region announced Richard Crawford, Vice President Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific, Marriott International.
Today, Marriott International, Inc., announced a signed agreement with Dynasty Development Limited to introduce its Sheraton Hotels & Resorts brand to Papua New Guinea converting an existing property in the city.
Expected to feature 378-keys, the Sheraton Port Moresby Stanley Hotel & Suites is slated to open in August 2025, following the first stage of a comprehensive refurbishment programme.
“Marriott International’s proven sales, marketing and distribution capabilities, along with the extensive reach of over 203 million Marriott Bonvoy members worldwide, are driving unprecedented interest from independent and existing hotels to join our global portfolio”, said Richard Crawford, Vice President Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific, Marriott International.
“Around 50 percent of Marriott’s new hotel signings in Asia Pacific excluding China in 2024 year-to-date have been conversions. We are thrilled to collaborate with Dynasty Development Limited to debut the Sheraton brand in Papua New Guinea.
"The market-leading positioning enjoyed by The Stanley Hotel & Suites, plus the owner’s commitment to a full hotel refurbishment, make this property a very compelling brand conversion.”
James Sze Yuan Lau, shareholder and Director of Dynasty Development Limited, expressed enthusiasm about the strategic partnership: “Introducing the Sheraton brand to Port Moresby represents a significant milestone for us in the Papua New Guinea market.
"The current hotel, with its storied legacy and commitment to excellence, perfectly embodies the essence of Sheraton’s renowned hospitality. We are excited to collaborate with Marriott International to elevate this property and deliver unparalleled experiences to our guests.”
Anticipated plans for the Sheraton Port Moresby Stanley Hotel & Suites include featuring 268 premium rooms, 15 suites and 95 apartments, each with separate lounge, kitchen and dining areas.
Following the refurbishment, the hotel will feature two restaurants, bar, café, infinity swimming pool with panoramic views and pool bar, fitness centre and day spa.
It is set to be Papua New Guinea’s largest and most modern conferencing facility with 2,500 sqm of events and meeting space, plus an executive Sheraton Club Lounge.
Located in the heart of Port Moresby’s business, sporting, commercial and cultural hub, and just a five-minute drive from the international airport, the hotel will be connected to Vision City Mega Mall, Port Moresby’s premier shopping destination, with an array of retail and hospitality outlets, a cinema, bank, nightclub, and supermarket right on its doorstep.
“With more than 425 hotels in 70 countries, Sheraton is Marriott International’s most global brand, and our latest signing in Port Moresby is a significant strategic advancement for the portfolio.
"With its new design, warm hospitality and inviting spaces that bring a sense of belonging, guests can expect our unwavering commitment to providing the Sheraton experience.
"Strong proven demand from government and corporate travel segments, particularly from the resources sector, will be central to our vision to take the hotel to the next level of excellence and success”, continues Richard Crawford, Vice President Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific, Marriott International.
Sheraton Port Moresby will join Marriott Executive Apartments Port Moresby as Marriott International’s second hotel in Port Moresby and will be the 11th Sheraton hotel in the Australia Pacific region, with other high profile Sheraton hotels and resorts located in Sydney, Melbourne, the Gold Coast, Port Douglas, Fiji, New Caledonia, and Samoa.
