Lancemore takes guests on a hard hat tour of their soon-to-open Melbourne hotel, Lancemore Crossley St.
Australian boutique hotel collection, Lancemore, announced the addition of a new Melbourne hotel to their stable, Lancemore Crossley St, in September.
With the hotel set to open in March 2020, Lancemore gave media and tastemakers a sneak peek inside their newest property during a hard hat tour to view the hotel as it begins to take shape.
Working with award-winning design firm Carr, Crossley St is the seventh property in Lancemore’s portfolio, and a prominent ‘onstage’ and ‘offstage’ theme is featured throughout the hotel, which speaks to Crossley St’s location between the Paris end of Bourke Street, the Theatre District, restaurants and the tempting sights and sounds of Chinatown.

Lancemore Crossley St will feature five room types across their offering of 113 private rooms, and during the hard hat tour guests were given a look inside these, which ranged from one of the first completed rooms to those still under construction.
It gave an insight into the hotel’s journey from construction through to completion.
The hotel’s walls will be hung with bespoke commissions from emerging artists along with captivating public spaces, including an eye-catching foyer where a stunning repurposed chandelier will hang.
Situated in an iconic laneway location, guests who toured Lancemore Crossley St were also taken up to the hotel’s quintessentially Melbourne rooftop terrace during the hard hat tour, where they took in skyline views.
Lancemore CEO, Julian Clark, spoke about the newest property in their collection.
“Crossley St is in the best location of Lancemore’s home city of Melbourne, and we wanted this to shine through in the design of the hotel," said Mr Clark.
"Being so close to the Theatre District, it was important that the arts and culture were showcased throughout the property to offer our guests a true Melbourne experience.
"With the launch of our collection-wide rebrand in the new year, starting the next chapter of Lancemore with the opening of Crossley St is very exciting.”
A mural on Crossley St’s rooftop by Melbourne artist, Tristan Kerr, reflects the cultural diversity of the city, with Kerr’s work encouraging people to stop and question both their surroundings and other possibilities for public spaces.
A striking kinetic sculpture by award-winning local Melbourne artist Laura Woodward also features on Lancemore Crossley St’s rooftop.
Carr’s Director of Design, Dan Cox, spoke of the creative process behind Lancemore Crossley St during the tour.
“We took our inspiration for the hotel from its urban location, and have included numerous artistic touchpoints throughout the property to reflect Melbourne’s unique cultural reputation," said Mr Cox.
“The ‘onstage-offstage’ theme fuses art, architecture, theatre and urbanism and invites guests to become an insider and retreat offstage from the busy city environment to the considered spaces of the hotel. "
Following the hard hat tour, Lancemore hosted a lunch at nearby restaurant, Pepe’s Italian & Liquor, where guests were able to gain a deeper understanding of Lancemore, its collection of properties and its rebrand, which launches in early 2020.
With luxury finishes elevating the comforts of Lancemore Crossley St to a new level, room rates start from $325 per night.
Upon its opening in March, guests will find themselves greeted with genuine and intuitive service, a unique location, superb food and wine and timeless designs, all reflective of Lancemore’s rebrand and new direction, which will continue to cement their position as one of Australia’s most respected boutique hotel operators.
